The San Fernando Valley

Nutshell: In “the valley”, homes and apartments are about 20% cheaper, parking is more plentiful, everything and anything can be found somewhere along Ventura Boulevard, and it’s about 10 degrees warmer in the summer than the rest of L.A.

The Bigger Picture: The San Fernando Valley, which is defined by the mountains encircling it, is approximately 220 square miles of urbanized land in LA County. Home to 1.77 million people, it sits north of the larger, more populous Los Angeles Basin, which includes the Downtown and Hollywood neighborhoods, among many others. In all, the valley is comprised of about 34 neighborhoods. Below you can dig a little further into the ones that flank its southern border.
