Step 1: Get Pre-Approved for a Loan
The last thing you want is to find a home that you love only to learn that it’s out of your budget. Moreover, in a hot market where properties are receiving multiple offers, one that’s not accompanied by a pre-approval letter has a reduced chance of being accepted. So, getting pre-approved is not a mere formality, it’s an important step towards homeownership. Speak with a lender to learn about their programs and get pre-approved. It’s a fast and easy process. If you don’t have a lender in mind, I’d be happy to share my thoughts regarding lenders I’ve worked with.
Step 2: Define Your Requirements
Compile a list of all the things that you’d like to have in a home: number of bedrooms, bathrooms, garage, pool, view, style of house, school system, square feet, etc. After you’ve made a thorough list, characterize the items as either ‘must-have’ or ‘good-to-have’. This will provide a great starting point to begin the search. As we start touring neighborhoods and homes, you may discover that your priorities change and will update your list accordingly.
Step 3: Initial Meeting
Buying a home is a huge investment – financially and emotionally. And while the process can often be short and sweet, it can also be quite elongated. So, as with any important decision that involves working with a professional in a particular field, you should choose someone that is knowledgeable, trustworthy and whose company you enjoy.
Our initial meeting will serve two purposes: It will give me the opportunity to listen to your needs and goals, and explain a bit about the process of buying a home. It will also provide you the opportunity to ask questions of me to help you determine whether you feel our styles are compatible. Ultimately, the experience of buying a home should be an enjoyable process.
Step 4: Customized Home Search
Based on your list of preferences, I will prepare a customized MLS home search and twice a day you will be automatically notified via email of the newest homes on the market that meet your requirements. I will also show you tips and tricks to streamline your search, manage favorites, and schedule appointments to visit in person.
Step 5: Touring Homes
When you’re ready to begin touring homes, just let me know. I’ll take care of scheduling home visits based on your schedule and the availability of homes that meet your requirements. Along the way I’ll provide my professional opinion with regard to value, risks, etc., but will never persuade you to make an offer. Only you can really know when you’ve found the home that’s right for you. Whether you end up seeing one house or one hundred, you’ll receive the same level of service
